Has Washington, D.C. transformed into a tropical rain forest? We’ve gone almost two weeks since the last sunny day, the mosquitoes are thick, and mold and mushrooms fluorishing. Making matters worse, we expect more clouds, more showers, and more mugginess for the first part of the week. Late in the week, a big cold front clears us out leaving sunny, crisp air for the weekend.

Today (Monday): Much like the weekend, it’s warm and humid with considerable cloud cover. But I think, after some patchy morning fog, we may see more breaks in the cloud cover, with partly sunny skies at times. A few showers or thundershowers may develop (30% chance), especially in the afternoon and towards the mountains - but they’re few and far between. Highs are in the upper 70s to around 80. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: It'a another very mild night, with flow from the south and cloud cover holding overnight low to the mid-to-upper 60s. A few scattered showers are possible (30-40% chance), especially towards morning. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Probably the cloudiest and wettest day of the week. It’s not an all-day washout or deluge, but showers and thundershowers are likely (70% chance) at times as moisture converges over the region. Like the previous several days, highs head for the mid-to-upper 70s with light breezes from the south. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Some showers linger into the evening, but they should gradually diminish. It’s then another mild, partly to mostly cloudly overnight, with fog possible late. Lows are in the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

A weak cold front drifts through the region Wednesday, bringing a small (20-30%) chance of showers yet again. Skies are partly to mostly cloudy with high temps in the neighborhood of 75-80. Partly cloudy Wednesday night with lows 60-65 (suburbs to city). Confidence: Medium

A forecast we’re all too familiar with: partly to mostly cloudy on Thursday with a 30% chance of mainly afternoon showers. Highs are in the mid-70s. Partly cloudy Thursday night, with lows 56-64 (suburbs to city). Confidence: Medium

A strong cold front pushes through the region Friday, kicking out the pesky upper level low pressure that has generated all the clouds and showers. I can’t rule out a shower as the front comes through, but this front won’t have a lot of moisture to work with. Generally, skies are partly sunny, with highs 70-75. Clearing and much cooler Friday night, with lows in the 40s to near 50 downtown. Confidence: Medium

Sunny, refreshing fall weather finally returns for the first weekend of October. It may be a bit breezy. For some, it will even feel cool. Highs both days are in the low-to-mid 60s with overnight lows mainly in the 40s - possibly some 30s in the colder suburbs. Confidence: Medium
