The week begins with a trio of summery days but then we abruptly shift to an entirely different weather regime. Fall takes hold as highs drop from the 80s to mostly the 60s Thursday through the weekend. Unlike last week, we won’t have historic rains, but showers are a possibility today, Wednesday and cannot be ruled out late in the week into the weekend either.

Today (Monday): Not a bad day. It still feels like summer but without excruciating humidity levels. The sun is out at times, but low pressure aloft helps clouds bubble up as we heat up. A few showers or thundershowers could develop, with the best odds (just 30%) in the late afternoon and early evening. Highs are in the low-to-mid 80s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Any early evening rain diminishes and skies are partly cloudy. Lows range from the upper 50s in the cooler suburbs to the mid-60s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Warm weather fans will rate this the best day of the week. We have lots of sunshine and minimal rain chances. Highs head up into the mid-80s, with even a few upper 80s possible. Humidity levels are moderate. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Partly cloudy and mild, with lows in the upper 50s in the cooler suburbs to the mid-60s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

A strong cold approaches Wednesday. Before it arrives, we sneak in one more very warm day, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s. With the front’s approach, clouds increase in the afternoon with 50-60% chance of showers and thunderstorms during the period spanning late afternoon to around midnight. Turning cooler Wednesday night late, with lows in the 50s to around 60 (downtown). Confidence: Medium-High

On Thursday, we transition to fall-like weather. A breeze from the northwest kicks in and temperatures don’t warm much. Under variably cloudy skies, highs reach the upper 60s to low 70s. Partly cloudy Thursday night, with lows 49-55 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium

The Friday through Sunday period is a little tricky as overruning rain may develop along the cold front stalled to our south. Depending on where the front is positioned, we may have a rainy period, a sunny period or something in between. I’m favoring the sunnier scenario but this is a low confidence forecast that will need to be fined tuned. The exact temperatures will depend somewhat on whether it’s rainy or sunny; but, either way, it’s going to be cooler than average - with highs generally in the 60s and lows in the mid-40s to low 50s (suburbs to city). Confidence: Low-Medium
