We couldn’t have asked for a better “rapture day,” and maybe some won’t be too upset to miss out on the warmer, more summerlike, weather coming up afterwards. Kidding aside... this should be a wonderful Saturday to spend outdoors. After the last week of daily rain and storm threats, I’m sure those gardens want some love. Not to mention all the other fun stuff out there this time of year! Soak it up — sweatier conditions may be right around the corner. This is the D.C. area after all, cool to hot is usually our story.

Today (Saturday): On the backside of the low-pressure system that has plagued us for so long, it should be pretty close to perfect. Some, probably mainly high level, clouds are possible, but we should see tons of sun. Before winds shift back toward the south late, we also see humiditiy levels that are still in the comfortable range. Mix in highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s and we’ve got a winner here. A random dot of a shower may be around late day, but I would not count on it. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: A few clouds may pass by in an otherwise stellar Saturday night. Evening temperatures should be quite conducive to any outdoor revelry (celebration of still being alive?). A drying wind off the mountains should cease, so you may note some rising humidity levels, and that extra moisture in the air should keep temperatures near 60 to the mid-60s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): This does not look like a bad end to the weekend, but not quite as nice as Saturday. If you want to give yourself more time in the sun, head out early. By midday or early afternoon clouds should begin to increase, and there’ll be a risk (30%) of showers or a rumble or two heading into evening. Before that highs should shoot for the mid-80s (maybe upper 80s) on increasingly muggier south winds. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: A risk of a few showers may persist into the late evening, though they should be rather hit-or-miss. Still, if you get caught under one it could be briefly heavy. Other than that, it may feel a bit summerlike as temperatures probably don’t go much lower than the mid-60s. Confidence: Medium

We’re running behind on 90-degree days so far this May — none yet this year either — and Monday or Tuesday may just do it. Even if not, both days look to provide a bit of our first real tastes of summer as we near the end of meteorological spring. Highs probably range from the mid-80s to near or just above 90 both afternoons. There’s also a risk of evening storms rolling in from the west, with perhaps slightly better odds of such on Monday. Confidence: Medium
