Nike Weatherman KD IV shoe (NIKE)

If you thought the Air Jordans were the rage when they were released in 1985, wait until you get wind of the Nike Weatherman KD IVs.

The inspiration of NBA all-star Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, these shoes may well take America by storm. Emblazoned with pressure isobars and bright green, yellow and red radar echoes on the back heel and sole, the striking features deliver a jolt.

The enlightened Durant credits a childhood fascination with weather as motivation for the shoes.

“I always wanted to be a weatherman growing up. I like natural disasters so I’ve made a really nice shoe,” he told Nike Kicks in an interview at the Josh Howard Celebrity All-Star event.

The shoes’ release has generated a flood of interest in the weather community, enough to spawn a recent segment on the The Weather Channel

In case the shoes weren’t shocking enough, there’s a shirt to match.

The shoes bolt onto the scene this Saturday, Dec. 10, in limited quantities at the House of Hoops, just in time for holiday shoppers.

Who knew sneakers could be so hot and the weather so cool?
