PM Update: Cold front to bring sharp drop in temps, but not much, if any, snow for weekend

Sunshine overachieved today, and so did temperatures, climbing up to near 60 degrees. A cold front zips through the region this evening with showers and falling temperatures. Yes, some areas north and west of town may see rain transition to snow before ending. The weekend is breezy and colder but likely without meaningful precipitation.

Through Tonight: Rapidly increasing clouds this evening with rain showers. Within a few hours of the rain ending (9 p.m. to midnight from southwest to northeast), it may mix with and/or change to snow north and west of the beltway, with little or no accumulation (probably a coating, at best - and mainly towards Leesburg and Frederick). Lows range from 30-35. Look out for a few slick spots outside the beltway early in the morning.

The weekend: Both days are variably cloudy, breezy, and chilly. On Saturday afternoon, I can’t rule out some light snow or flurries east of I-95, but the odds of that are slim. High Saturday are near 40. Partly to mostly cloudy Saturday night, with chilly lows from 22-27. Sunday is the colder of the two days, with highs only in the low-to-mid 30s. A few snow flurries or snow showers are possible...especially mid-morning to mid-afternoon.
