Queens, New York: Hail that had to hurt

Baseball sized hail battered sections of Queens, New York Monday night.

CBSNew York reported the hail “shattered car windows, punctured plastic law furniture and vinyl siding.” The New York Times said three-inch diameter hailstones were reported in New Hyde Park. Gothamist described the hail as “horrifying” and “heavenly”

The same cold front that produced cascading icy chunks in Queens brought more diminutive hail to the Washington, D.C. metro region. Numerous reports of hail from 0.75-1” in diameter in Loudoun and Prince George’s county were logged by the National Weather Service.
