Rainbow and lightning near Washington Dulles airport

Reader John Kosak photographed a bolt of lightning beneath a vibrant rainbow close to Dulles Airport earlier this evening.

Here’s his detailed description of the photograph:

Looking north from the south end of Herndon on the east side of Route 28 at Frying Pan road. About 6:15 EDT we were getting rain, winds and the rainbow with lightning. Temp 81F, winds out of the south at 14 gusting to 26 mph.
