The period of strongest winds will likely fall between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday.
The NWS cautions downed trees and powerlines will be possible from higher wind gusts. However, it has lowered its forecast for peak gusts from 60 mph (in yesterday’s high wind watch) to 50 mph.
Stronger winds gusting to 55 mph are possible in the mountains to the west where the wind advisory has already gone into effect. This advisory may need to be upgraded to a high wind warning Saturday the NWS said.
Locally high gusts may also be observed near the Cheseapeake Bay.
Sustained winds will generally range from 20-35 mph throughout the region.
