D.C. area forecast: Maybe a downpour or two today, then a magnificent Monday

Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the days weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Not hot but plenty muggy. Plus looming shower threat leaves outdoor plans on shaky ground.

Express Forecast

Today: Partly to mostly cloudy. 30-60% chance of showers/t’showers. Highs: Mid-80s.

Tonight: Chance of evening showers. Lows: 60s.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, low humidity. Mid-80s.

No doubt you’ve noticed the humidity on the rise, and a passing cold front today could trigger scattered downpours. We get another quick shot of unusually dry and mild conditions to start the work week, before another system moves in toward midweek, bringing with it a return to summer sweat and increasing chances for showers and storms.

Today (Sunday): As a cold front comes through, a 30% chance of isolated morning showers turns into a 50-60% chance of scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers with the potential for heavy rain. Partly to mostly cloudy skies help hold highs to the mid-80s but it still feels muggy. Light winds blow from the south near 10 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: A 50% chance of showers lingers into or through evening, but then decreases overnight as the front moves away. Skies attempt to clear toward morning as winds from the northwest bring in drier air and lows drop into the 60s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Monday): High pressure builds in and the Nice Day Sun returns as we head back to work. Mostly sunny skies and low humidity combine for a stellar day with highs climbing to the mid-80s. Winds are light from the west around 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Monday night stays quite pleasant, and those in the suburbs may even sneak in a night with the windows open rather than pumping the A/C.  Skies are mostly clear with lows dropping to the low 60s outside the Beltway, with mid-to-upper 60s more likely downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Summer starts to return again on Tuesday but it’s far from uncomfortable.  Humidity rises a bit as a disturbance slowly heads our way from the west, but stays far enough away to leave us with partly to mostly sunny skies and pleasant highs in the mid-80s. Clouds increase Tuesday night with lows mainly in the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

By Wednesday, we’ll need to keep an eye on the sky for the possibility of some showers or storms (30% chance as of now). Otherwise, we’re looking at a return to more “normal” conditions with highs probably in upper 80s coinciding with rising humidity levels. Confidence: Low-Medium
