D.C. area forecast: Pleasing weather ahead, perhaps interrupted by late-Thursday rain

Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the days weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Mild temps and no umbrella needed outweigh more clouds than sun.

Express Forecast

Today: Partly to mostly cloudy. Highs: Low-to-mid 70s.

Tonight: Slight chance of a shower. Lows: Upper 50s to low 60s.

Tomorrow: Partly to mostly cloudy, p.m. rain likely. Highs: Low-to-mid 70s.

Today’s increased clouds may have you fearing a return to that dismally dreary pattern that we finally emerged from on Monday. Don’t fret too much, though. While we may see more clouds than sun through tomorrow, and appear to be in line for a period of rain late tomorrow, sunshine should make a nice comeback starting Friday. Meanwhile, Mother Nature should draw plenty of applause with highs in the 70s and 60s straight through the weekend.

Today (Wednesday): Clouds could be numerous at times – we’ll call it partly to mostly cloudy — but overall it’s a very pleasant day with highs heading for the low-to-mid 70s. A cold front approaching from the west should stay too far west to cause us any trouble. Light winds around 5-10 mph from the south-southeast add a tiny touch of humidity to the air. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: The cold front dries up as it closes in on us. So just a slight chance of a shower through the night, with partly to mostly cloudy skies and lows in the upper 50s to low 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): With that cold front around, we’ll keep a slight chance of an early-to-mid morning shower in the forecast. Otherwise it’s another partly to mostly cloudy day with highs in the low-to-mid 70s and light winds near 5-10 mph from the west-northwest. As low pressure develops along the front and approaches from the southwest, chances look good (60-70%) for a period of light to moderate rain starting mid-to-late afternoon and lasting into the evening. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Rain chances continue at 60-70% through evening before diminishing overnight. An overnight breeze from the northwest helps temperatures cool down to lows from near 50 to the mid-50s. Confidence: Medium

The front, the low pressure and the rain vacate the area in time for a very nice Friday through Sunday. Shower chances are low with partly to mostly sunny skies and pleasant highs in the upper 60s to near 70. Friday and Saturday night lows dip to the upper 40s to low 50s. Confidence: Medium
