Capitals re-sign center Jay Beagle

The Capitals have re-signed hard-working forward Jay Beagle to a three-year extension worth $2.7 million.

Beagle, 26, appeared in a career-high 41 games last season and recorded five points (four goals, one assist). Beyond his numbers, Beagle’s role within the team increased dramatically as he went from a fourth-line grinder to a shut-down center.

With Mathieu Perreault and Beagle agreeing to new contracts Thursday, defensemen Mike Green and John Carlson remain the team’s only two unsigned restricted free agents..
