A lockout seems increasingly likely with only 11 days to go before the current collective bargaining agreement expires, but the Capitals captain was still working out at KCI this morning along with Nicklas Backstrom and several others.

Ovechkin spoke at length about the potential work stoppage (more on that to come), but didn’t offer much elaboration on his hairstyle.

“Just a personal reason,” Ovechkin told reporters. “I’m one of the soldiers on the NHLPA.”

General Manager George McPhee couldn’t say much about the ongoing labor negotiations, but he did share his opinion on Ovechkin’s new look.

“All the kids that want to be Ovi are going to get the tennis-ball look,” McPhee said. “That’s a good-looking haircut.”
