Alex Ovechkin ‘ready to go’ for Capitals’ opener

Alex Ovechkin was one of the first players on the ice at KCI Saturday morning in his first practice with teammates since returning to Washington.

He skated late Friday night after arriving back from Moscow where he attended his uncle’s funeral and on the morning of the Capitals’ 2011-12 season opener Ovechkin said he’s ready to face the Carolina Hurricanes.

“Yaah, you know it was hard time but it’s done and I’m happy to be back. I feel pretty good,” said Ovechkin, who added he wasn’t fazed by the long trip back to North America.

“I feel okay,” Ovechkin said. “I sleep most of time over there in the plane...It is what it is, I feel pretty good ready to go.”
