The Capitals were greeted with something new on the wall in the players’ lounge when they arrived for this morning’s skate: a bulletin board with the Eastern Conference standings written on it.

“It’s visual, a lot of it,” Coach Dale Hunter said. “Everybody knows where we are. But if you see it every day, you [realize] how important points are right now.”

The Capitals, by the way, are 10th in the conference, three points behind eight-place Florida and four points behind Southeast Division leading Winnipeg.

“We just put up a big bulletin board with all the teams and their standings and their stats,” winger Troy Brouwer said. “It’s really everywhere now. There’s no way around it. You do have to make sure that when you go into games, you know the situation.”

Hunter said it was assistant coach Jim Johnson’s decision to put up the bulletin board.

“It’s something that we’re walking by every day,” Brouwer added. “So you stay conscious of what’s going on around the league.”
