Capitals recall Braden Holtby

Washington recalled goaltender Braden Holtby from Hershey and he is on the ice with the Capitals this morning. Michal Neuvirth is also out on the ice for the morning skate and he is expected to get the start against the Blues at Verizon Center.

Semyon Varlamov is day-to-day with a knee injury and did not take part in practice Wednesday or Thursday, which caused the Capitals to recall Todd Ford to serve as Neuvirth’s backup in the consecutive games against the Islanders.

Holtby likely would have been the player initially recalled when Varlamov went down if he wasn’t also sidelined with a knee injury, suffered while playing with the Bears, but he looks okay during the workout at KCI.
