The Capitals recalled forward Cody Eakin from the Hershey Bears and reassigned defenseman Sean Collins to the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

Eakin, 20, has recorded three goals and five assists in 10 games with the Bears so far this season, which is his first year as a professional.

It’s unclear at this time why the Capitals brought Eakin up, given that every forward on the roster — excluding Jay Beagle (concussion) but including D.J. King, who is on waivers — is out on the ice for the morning skate at KCI.

Meanwhile, Washington has reassigned Collins to Hershey, which likely means that John Erskine is ready to play for the first time since undergoing surgery on his left shoulder in May.
