The Capitals have signed Jason Chimera to a two-year contract extension, with an annual salary cap hit of $1.75 million. The veteran winger is now under contract with Washington through the 2013-14 season.

Chimera, 32, has recorded 17 goals and 26 assists since joining the Capitals via trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets in December of 2009. During last year’s postseason run, Chimera recorded two game-winning goals including a memorable tally to end a double-overtime contest in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the New York Rangers.

He is in the final year of his previous contract, a four-year deal with an average annual value of $1.875 million per season.
