Alexander Semin was on the ice taking part in the Capitals’ morning skate Wednesday and for the second consecutive day he worked alongside Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom on what may be the top line as they take on Ottawa tonight.

Semin missed the past two games with a minor injury to his right shoulder, but told colleague Tarik El Bashir on Tuesday that he expected to be in the lineup against the Senators.

Asked Wednesday morning if he expected a spark from Semin after sitting out the past two games, though, Coach Dale Hunter wouldn’t go so far as to confirm the Russian winger’s place in the lineup.

“He was banged up,”Hunter said. “Right now it’s a day-to-day decision with him; a game-time decision. If he is in the lineup I expect Alex Semin to score goals for us and play hard.”

Asked what he wants to see out of Semin, Hunter replied: “Play his game. He’s an offensive guy, we need him to play hard but be creative.”

In 23 games this season, Semin has five goals, five assists is a minus-4 and has 32 penalty minutes, which is second highest on the team behind John Erskine (37).
