Defenseman Dennis Wideman, who suffered a lower-body injury in the second period of Washington’s 3-2 shootout loss to Carolina Tuesday, did not take part in the morning skate in advance of tonight’s game and is now formally listed as week-to-week by the team.

Wideman’s absence means Tyler Sloan will get back in the lineup, making an appearance for the 31st time this season against the Blue Jackets.

A few other quick notes from the morning skate:

--Michal Neuvirth was the first goaltender off the ice this morning at KCI and will get the start against the Columbus tonight. This will be Neuvirth’s first start since March 22 against Philadelphia and the first appearance in his career against the Blue Jackets.

--Alex Ovechkin, Jason Arnott and Alexander Semin did not take part in the optional morning skate.

-- Jason Chimera, who was a healthy scratch against the Hurricanes, came off the ice with the group of players that expects to be in the lineup for the evening’s game, so it appears as though he’ll face his former club. Meanwhile, Eric Fehr, Jay Beagle and D.J. King all stayed out for extra work and will likely be the scratches.

--Mike Green (concussion) skated for about 20 minutes this morning but went off the ice once the formal practice session began shortly after 10 a.m.
