Jose Theodore, Tomas Vokoun both out tonight

It was supposed to be a showdown between Tomas Vokoun and Jose Theodore. Instead, we’re getting backups Michal Neuvirth and Scott Clemmensen.

As we reported earlier, Vokoun will be the backup tonight in somewhat of a surprise development. Theodore, meantime, is sick and will not play for the Panthers. Jacob Markstrom will back up Clemmensen.

“He’s ill,” Panthers Coach Kevin Dineen said moments ago about Theodore. “He came in last night with flu-like symptoms. I felt we would give him the afternoon, and he hasn’t improved a heck of a lot.”

Theodore is 10-5-3 with a 2.28 goals against average a .924 save percentage this season, his first with the Panthers. He’s also a huge reason they enter tonight’s game off to their best start in 12 years and with a five point lead on the Caps in the Southeast Division.

Clemmensen stopped 23 shots in a 5-3 in San Jose on Saturday.
