Coach Bruce Boudreau said Michal Neuvirth’s previous success against the New York Rangers played a role in determining that the 23-year-old would get the start this afternoon in the first of Washington’s back-to-back games this weekend.
In his previous five outings against the Rangers, Neuvirth is 4-1-0 with a .946 save percentage and 1.37 goals-against average. Those contests came during Washington’s first-round playoff win against New York last spring.
In other lineup notes, Boudreau wouldn’t say whether John Erskine would suit up against New York, only that he would take warmup. Erskine missed the past two games after falling on his surgically-repaired left shoulder in practice last Sunday.
Twenty-two players will take warmup, Boudreau said, so we’ll have to wait and see until the team skates line rushes to know precisely which defenseman and forward will be the odd men out.
