NHL releases TV schedule; Capitals-Penguins showdown on Jan. 22 to be broadcast nationally

Washington’s Jan. 22 contest against the rival Pittsburgh Penguins is one five Capitals games that could be broadcast on NBC this season.

The Capitals are scheduled for five flex games (meaning they could end up on either NBC or Versus): Jan. 22 vs. Penguins at 3 p.m., Feb. 12 vs. Rangers at 3 p.m.; March 18 vs. Blackhawks at 7 p.m.; March 25 vs. Minnesota at 5 p.m.and April 7 vs. Rangers at 3 p.m.

Washington will play six additional games broadcast exclusively on Versus, which will be renamed NBC Sports Network on Jan. 2. There are also 15 games scheduled to be shown on NHL Network.
