The 26-year-old Russian has attended four straight All-Star games and is scheduled to appear in his fifth this weekend, along with Capitals defenseman Dennis Wideman. Still, it wouldn’t be so surprising if Ovechkin were to withdraw, given his status as a suspended player and his comments before the roster announcement on Jan. 12:

Asked if he would be disappointed if he weren’t selected, Ovechkin replied: “No, because I’m going to go straight up to vacation somewhere.”

A Capitals spokesman would not comment Monday when asked if Ovechkin planned to participate.
