True North Sports and Entertainment is expected to announce its purchase of the Atlanta Thrashers and the relocation of the team to Winnipeg, Manitoba, at a news conference scheduled for noon (EST) Tuesday.

According to numerous reports, Winnipeg will likely remain in the Southeast Division for the 2011-12 season and the NHL will not undergo realignment for another year. If that proves to be the case, the Capitals will play the Winnipeg team, which has not yet been named, six times in the regular season, including three trips to MTS Centre in Manitoba. A round-trip flight from Dulles airport to Winnipeg is more than 2,400 miles.

Even with the scheduled announcement, the sale and relocation of the Thrashers is pending approval by the NHL Board of Governors, which is scheduled to meet next on June 21 in New York.

The league announced that the news conference will be streamed live on and it will also be aired on the NHL Network and TSN.
