Troy Brouwer to make Capitals debut on Monday

Troy Brouwer is expected to make his Caps debut Monday against Columbus at Verizon Center, Coach Bruce Boudreau said.

Brouwer, according to Boudreau, is scheduled to play on the top line opposite Alex Ovechkin. He’ll be the third winger to get a preseason game with the former two-time MVP. (Mike Knuble and Joel Ward have already skated with Ovechkin.)

Brouwer could have played Friday in Chicago, but Boudreau said he didn’t want the former Blackhawk trying to do too much against his former team. The 6-foot-2, 214-pound winger is recovered from offseason surgery on his right shoulder.

“I mean, when you play your first game [after a long layoff] and it’s against your former team, he would have been so ramped up, he probably would have tried to do something you don’t want him to do,” Boudreau said.

Brouwer told me he wants to play in three of the final four preseason games.
