“He looks slow but he’s buzzing pretty fast,” forward Michael Latta said. “Hell of a player.”

Plus notes on Mike Green's return from injury and Jay Beagle's big blocked shot.

Green had missed seven straight, but will be activated off injured reserve Thursday night.

If Green couldn't skate against the Lightning, Coach Barry Trotz wanted the defenseman to stay behind in D.C. and work out.

"I’m anxious to get back, but we’ve got to be smart," Green said. "That’s the last thing you want, is setbacks."

Rookie Liam O'Brien will also travel, despite hints he may soon head to Hershey.

The Capitals will decide on Green's status Tuesday, but if he does not practice, he will not travel with the team to New York.

Coach Barry Trotz offered little information on the injury, except saying, "I don't think it's too serious."

“Took me a period to sort of get the feeling back to skate, but felt great," Green said

In his first win as Capitals head coach, Barry Trotz watches his team "[put] our foot on the snake and…finish the job.”
