Virginia Coach Mike London said Wednesday that rising sophomore Michael Rocco and rising redshirt sophomore Ross Metheny are listed as interchangeable atop the team’s depth chart at quarterback exiting spring practice.

Rising redshirt freshman Michael Strauss and true freshman David Watford, who enrolled at Virginia in January, are listed as interchangeable in the second tier at quarterback.

“Those guys are in a bunch or in a clump that these guys are continuing to be evaluated, but somebody’s got to separate themselves,” London said. “Rocco and Metheny played in games. We wanted to do that so they’d get game experience. They did get more reps than Michael Strauss and David Watford, but they’re kind of on the same line there. It’ll be interesting to see. I’m looking to see who’s going to emerge as a leader for the team.”

Rocco played in six games in 2010, completing 13 of 25 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He took an overwhelming majority of the first-team snaps during the team’s spring game April 2.

Metheny saw action in five games last season. He threw for 171 yards, three touchdowns and one interception on 13 for 17 passing.
