It’s not even summer yet, but Oscar season? It’s on! (MARK RALSTON/AFP/GETTY IMAGES)

The Academy confirmed via press release that things will remain status quo regarding next year’s Oscars, with the ceremony to be held at the Kodak Theatre for the 11th consecutive year, the event to be broadcast on ABC and a 90-minute ABC red carpet show to precede the ceremony, as it did this year.

Oscar nominations will be announced at 5:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012. That means you have nine months to predict the nominees. For God’s sake, why are you sitting here reading this when you could be working on movie awards-related algorithms to determine whether Martin Scorsese will get a nod for best director?

Oh, one other date to reserve: Feb. 27, 2012, the day you’ll spend complaining about how boring the Academy Awards was and why host [fill in the blank] was a total disappointment.
