A New York Daily News photographer has accused Baldwin of punching him after he took the actor’s picture, a claim Baldwin’s rep denied.
Marcos Santos told the Daily News, “He was looking mad. . . . He said, ‘Step back, step back.’ I said, ‘We’re moving back.’ ” Santos alleges that he told Baldwin not to grab another photographer, which caused the “Rock of Ages” actor to punch and shove him.
The Daily News has published two photos from the scene of the incident, one of which shows a visibly upset Baldwin reaching toward Santos.
Baldwin’s rep denied Santos’s version of events in a statement sent to press outlets, including Celebritology: “As Alec and his fiancee were leaving City Hall, a ‘civilian’ walking in front of Alec positioned himself to obstruct the view of a photographer aggressively trying to shoot the couple. The photographer was clearly frustrated, pushed past the bystander and assaulted Alec with his camera. There were no punches thrown, and any subsequent physical contact was simply Alec protecting himself.”
Update: According to the Associated Press, a police report has been filed by Santos. Baldwin has not been charged with a crime.
As he did when he was removed from an American Airlines flight, Baldwin has taken to Twitter to present his side of the story.
“A ‘photographer’ almost hit me in the face with his camera this morning. #allpaparazzishouldbewaterboarded,” he tweeted this morning.
Baldwin later said, “I suppose if the offending paparazzi was wearing a hoodie and I shot him, it would all blow over,” apparently referencing the shooting of Trayvon Martin by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman.
Most recently, he tweeted: “The photographer who assaulted me has (belatedly) gone to a hospital claiming injuries. [New York Daily News editor in chief] Colin Myler and his [News of the World] scams come to NY.”
This is not the first time Baldwin has criticized the Daily News. He railed against the paper on Twitter after two of its photographers took pictures of Thomas at a yoga class.
