Chris Brown’s much-covered tirade last week on “Good Morning America” certainly hasn’t hurt his career.

His new release, “F.A.M.E.,” has become the No. 1 album in the country, rising to the top of the Billboard 200 chart with around 270,000 copies of the CD sold so far. The achievement marks the first No. 1 album in Brown’s career.

If that isn’t enough, his appearance on “Dancing With the Stars” helped make Tuesday’s results show the winner of that night’s ratings game. Zap 2 It reports that 18.8 million viewers turned in to see Mike Catherwood get kicked off and, perhaps, to see Brown perform. (Personally, I think at least part of that ratings success should be attributed to a little something I call the Ralph Macchio Effect.)

So that old adage is true then: a well-publicized, glass-breaking freak-out can be good for one’s career. I always thought that was just an old wives’ tale.
