Prince William and Duchess Catherine of Cambridge, a.k.a. Kate Middleton, attracted an impressive number of high-wattage celebrities to the BAFTA “Brits to Watch” event Saturday night in Hollywood.

As expected, everyone glammed up appropriately, perhaps most notably the royal couple themselves, who looked, not surprisingly, pretty impeccable. So who were the best- and worst-dressed stars at the much-buzzed-about gala?

Hey, let’s ask a journalist who happens to be typing this blog post while wearing an “Arrested Development” T-shirt (that would be me, Jen Chaney) to assess the fashion hits and misses of the famous and well-connected. My five best and worst dressed choices, plus a poll that allows you to rank the picks yourself, follows after the jump. And don’t forget to view even more images in our photo gallery of the gala.

In a flowy Alexander McQueen gown highlighting a waist that might be teenier than the head of your average pin, Duchess Catherine looked elegant and flawless.

The actress, currently appearing in “Larry Crowne,” was a stunner in royal blue.

Zooey Deschanel

The spokes-singer for Cotton (whose voice will soon be heard in “Winnie the Pooh”) opted for a shimmery, gold, tea-length dress by Oscar de la Renta. As always, so sweet and darling she causes cavities.

Mary Louise Parker

The star of “Weeds” added some classy va va and voom to the affair in Dolce&Gabbana. (Note: This item was updated to add the name of the designer of Parker’s dress.)

Look, I told you I was wearing an “Arrested Development” T-shirt. Frankly, you should have seen this coming five paragraphs ago.

The five worst-dressed celebrities at the BAFTA gala:

Jennifer Lopez

When meeting British royalty, it seems to me that one should keep his or her abs covered. Maybe I’m too much of a traditionalist in this regard.

Elizabeth Banks

This is what happens when gold buttons are left unsupervised. Let this be a lesson to us all.

Quentin Tarantino

The tie was sloppily knotted. The hair was barely combed. And according to USA Today, Tarantino wore sneakers. He never claimed to be a fashionista, but come on, QT. To quote your magnificent film, “Pulp Fiction”: “Don’t be a □.”

Blake Lively

How to go from being the (alleged) chick in nude iPhone photos to an actress wearing an oversized doily on a red carpet in a single month.

Jennifer Garner

The color of Garner’s dress is gorgeous. The excessively baggy draping? Not so much.

Now it’s your turn. Rank the stars highlighted here from best-dressed to worst, via the poll below.
