After noticing that the band’s Twitter account wasn’t getting much attention, Jon Hendren, a writer for comedy site Something Awful, challenged Smash Mouth’s lead singer, Steve Harwell, to eat 24 hard-boiled eggs for $20. Hendren was joined by many Twitter users in his call.

Surprisingly, Harwell said he would accept the challenge if those asking for the egg eating could raise $10,000 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. So far, $7,382 has been raised on

Harwell’s choice of charity may come from a sad chapter of his life. In 2001, Harwell’s 6-month-old son Presley died of acute lymphatic leukemia. But now, because of the Internet, St. Jude’s is going to get a lot of money for cancer research. And the guy who sang “All Star” is going to eat a lot of eggs.

Here’s a song written solely to ask Smash Mouth to eat the eggs.
