After much blogosphere and gossip-zine buzz about an unfolding week-long celebration of the pending Timber-Biel union, the couple officially confirmed to People magazine that they indeed tied the knot in southern Italy earlier today.
“It’s great to be married, the ceremony was beautiful and it was so special to be surrounded by our family and friends,” they said in a statement that undoubtedly was heartfelt but sounded like it was written by a PR firm. Biel’s spokeswoman also confirmed the news to the Associated Press.
Details about the ceremony, alternately described as “top-secret,” ”private” and “intimate,” are pretty scant. People promises to tell us everything, and publish “exclusive photos” in its next issue. The New York Daily News characterized the ceremony as “star-studded,” but appeared to be basing that on the fact that Andy Samberg, ’N Sync’s Chris Kirkpatrick, Timbaland and Biel’s former “7th Heaven” co-star Beverly Mitchell were all seen eating olives and cheese together the night before the wedding and therefore were probably at the actual event. Which is probably a fair assumption. (E! Online reports that Jimmy Fallon and wife Nancy Juvonen were there, too, and that the ceremony happened at the Borgio Egnazia resort. Which is clearly not at all stunning or picturesque.)
While we wait to see the dress and find out whether Timberlake sang “Sexy Back” to his new bride during the reception, here are a few relevant numerical details.
Biel and Timberlake dated for four years before they took a break in March of last year. After that split, Timberlake called the actress “the most significant person in my life,” which suggested maybe that split wasn’t permanent.
They were broken up for roughly four months, then got back together last summer.
Five months or so later they were engaged.
Less than a year later, they’re husband and wife, marking the first marriage for both. (For the record, this also makes Timberlake the second former member of ’N Sync to get married. The first was Joey Fatone back in 2004.)
