The winner of “Survivor: Redemption Island” was revealed Sunday night. So if you haven’t made it through the three-hour finale episode yet but plan to, stop reading now.

From the 18 contestants who started on the show’s 22nd season, only three remained: “Boston” Rob Mariano, Phillip Sheppard and Natalie Tenerelli. When the votes were counted, Mariano, who appeared on three other seasons of “Survivor,” showed that persistence can translate into a million dollars. He won with eight of the nine votes and also received the $100,000 fan-favorite prize.

“You don’t know for sure until the votes are read, but I had a pretty good feeling,” Mariano said in a phone interview with the Associated Press. “I played my heart out. I love this game, but you’ve got to get lucky along the way, too. I know what it takes. It’s really, really difficult. I’m really, really happy things happened the way they did this time.”
