‘This is 40’ trailer: Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann face middle age with non-grace

Well, they’re back in “This is 40,” a comedy billed as the “sort-of sequel” to “Knocked Up” that focuses on Debbie (Leslie Mann) and Pete (Paul Rudd) as they face middle-age.

The trailer for the Judd Apatow film, out around Christmas, debuted online today and is already generating your typical polarized chatter on YouTube.

“Apatow is amazing,” wrote YouTube commenter NeuroMan42.

“Let me guess Leslie Mann ends up having a breakdown including tears and [expletive] at the end. Thanks for wasting everyone’s time Apatow,” counters IShouldBeACritic0.

Who’s right? Decide for yourself by watching the clip below. I have a feeling the movie will resonate pretty strongly with me. Because, like Mann’s character, I too am turning, um, 38 this year.

(Note: The trailer has been approved for “appropriate audiences,” but with an R-rating at the front. So be forewarned that it features a couple of semi-crude comments.)

When she isn’t at a movie theater or writing about movies, Jen Chaney is ... um ... probably at home, watching a movie.
