Melissa McCarthy, former “Gilmore Girls” actress and “Bridesmaids” star, announced the Emmy nominations with Joshua Jackson on Thursday morning. And when the lead actress in a comedy series category rolled around, McCarthy got a pleasant surprise.

After Jackson read off the names of the nominees Edie Falco, Tina Fey, Laura Linney, he announced that the fourth nod went to ... Melissa McCarthy for “Mike and Molly.”

“Yikes!” the actress said as she looked stunned by the honor. Everyone applauded. “Okay. Keep it together,” she said, collecting herself to resume her duties.

The reaction was great, and we think completely genuine. “I almost started crying,” McCarthy told Heather McTear of, who wrote this great description: “A show-stopper, heart-warmer, and feel good moment.” Watch her reaction, after the jump.
