Which 2012 celebrity relationship story has been most surprising?

July has just begun, which means we've passed the 2012 halfway point and can begin to assess important things about the year so far. And by that I mean really important things, like the impact of celebrity relationship stories.

Paradis and Depp: a more shocking split than TomKat? You tell us. (MARTIN BUREAU/AFP/GETTY IMAGES)

The still-developing saga of the Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes split — we need a name for this thing, by the way: TomKat-pocalypse? Highway to the Divorce Zone? — seems like a strong contender for the biggest celebrity story of 2012 so far. But in the category of Celebrity Hook-Ups and Break-Ups, is it the most surprising entry? Or were you more shocked when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie announced their engagement, or Katy Perry signed her divorce papers from Russell Brand (smiley face!), or when Johnny Depp confirmed his break-up with Vanessa Paradis?

There’s only one way to find an answer: let’s go to the highly unscientific, kind of ridiculous, yet still fun-to-participate-in online poll!

Which breaking relationship news has made your jaw drop farthest this year so far? Vote below to weigh in.
