The U.S. Naval Academy announced Thursday that a freshman midshipman is charged with sexual assault of a female classmate.
The unidentified student is accused of violating Article 107 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, issuing a false statement, as well as rape and “other sexual assault provisions” covered in Article 120.
The alleged victim has been assigned a personal advocate to provide support and counseling, the academy said in a statement.
The charges follow an investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and a decision by the academy superintendent to proceed with the case. A hearing is set for Monday at the Annapolis service academy.
