Marcia G. Welsh, provost of Towson University, has been appointed interim president by university system Chancellor William E. Kirwan, the chancellor’s office announced Monday.

Welsh assumes the presidency April 20, temporarily replacing Robert Caret, who is leaving Towson to become president of the University of Massachusetts system. Caret leaves Towson April 19.

Welsh joined Towson in 2009 from Adelphi University in New York, where she served as provost. She has a doctorate in anatomy from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio.
