1 child killed in Charles County house fire

A 5-year-old boy died in a Thursday morning fire at a Charles County home, a county spokeswoman said.

Firefighters were called to the scene of the blaze in a single family home the 6800 block of Arbor Lane in Bryans Road around 6:10 a.m., said Crystal Hunt, a Charles County public information officer.

A woman lived in the house with six children, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal. When firefighters arrived, authorities said, they rescued an unconscious 2-year-old girl was rescued from the burning home and taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The woman who lived in the house helped rescue a third-year-old girl with the help of two landscapers she found outside, authorities said.

Firefighters battled the blaze for about 30 minutes, before it was put out, Hunt said. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
