10-year-old girl sexually assaulted in Oxon Hill

Prince George’s County police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl after breaking into her family’s Oxon Hill apartment Monday morning, authorities said.

The girl’s relatives contacted police about 6:30 a.m., saying a man had broken into the girl’s bedroom in the 5400 block of Livingston Terrace through a ground floor window and sexually assaulted her, said Julie Parker, a Prince George’s County police spokeswoman. Parker said other family members were home at the time, but they did not hear the man.

The man fled through the same window he came in, and the girl reported what had happened to family members, Parker said. She said those family members immediately called police, but officers could not find the suspect when they arrived.

Parker said investigators believe the man was a stranger to the girl and think the incident might have started as a burglary. She said the man had a beard and was wearing a black scarf that obscured his eyes.

Anyone who might have seen someone acting unusual, especially lurking around windows in the apartment complex, is asked to call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS, police said.
