2 dead in Friday night Howard Co. crash

Two young men died Friday night when the car they were passengers in struck a tree in Howard County, police said.

The crash took place shortly after 8 p.m. on Lawyer’s Hill road, Howard County police said.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old Linthicum man, lost control of his Pontiac GT, sending the car careening across the road and striking a tree, according to police.

Two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene: Jeffrey Ryan Giles, 19, of Linthicum, who was a front seat passenger, and Jonathan Lloyd Deckman, 18, of Severn, who was riding in the rear seat.

Police said the passengers who died were not wearing seat belts, and speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.
