Two people were shot late Tuesday afternoon, one fatally, at an apartment complex in the Forestville area, authorities said.

The man who died was 18 years old, and he was a freshman at Suitland High School, said Julie Parker, a spokeswoman for the Prince George’s County police.

His death was the sixth killing of a Prince George’s student since the school year began.

Well into the evening, homicide detectives and Prince George's County police commanders remained on the scene of the incident, which occurred about 5:35 p.m. in the 3700 block of Donnell Drive, just off Pennsylvania Avenue. Police said both victims were adults, and that the second person was critically wounded.

The county police department said Tuesday night that there was "no indication” that the double shooting on Tuesday was connected with the murder of Charles Walker Jr., who was slain on Monday. Walker also attended Suitland High.

On Tuesday evening, investigators had cordoned off a large swath of the complex's lot with yellow crime-scene tape. A few people who lived nearby stood across the street, seeking information on what happened.
Willie Ross, 47, said he heard the gunshots from his condo nearby and
walked down to see what had happened. Gunshots, he said, are not uncommon in the area, "but they was close today."
"I think it's ridiculous. These young kids want to be gangsters," he said.
"I just moved back here, and I'm ready to leave already."
