20 years for Maryland man, 63, in child sex offense case

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A 63-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex offenses involving a minor.

Marvin VanMeter was sentenced Thursday in Allegany County Circuit Court.

The Times-News of Cumberland reports that the case stemmed from incidents between June and December 2011, in which VanMeter, who had temporary care and custody of two minor males, engaged in sexual acts with the two boys after providing them with alcohol.

This item has been updated, correcting VanMeter’s age, which was incorrect in the headline.
