An Ellicott City woman has been charged with drunken driving after hitting the rear of a marked Howard County Police car Friday night that had parked with its emergency lights on during a traffic stop of another motorist.

The allegedly drunk driver of a Kia Sorento hit the police Dodge Charger than then struck the BMW stopped in front of the cruiser, injuring the officer but not the second motorist, according to Howard County police.

Sung Ok Jang, 45, of the 8000 block of Randolph Way in Ellicott City, was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence, police said.

Officer Terrance Sheppard, a 23-year veteran of the force, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The collision occurred at about 11:45 p.m. Friday in Ellicott City on eastbound on Route 40 at Route 29, police said.
