4-year-old boy Woodbridge boy dies after accidentally shooting hiself

A four-year-old Woodbridge boy died Wednesday after he apparently shot himself in the head, police said.

At 3:25 p.m., police received reports that a boy was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head at the 14800 block of Empire Street in Woodbridge, authorities said. The boy was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the boy found the gun inside an unoccupied vehicle belonging to a family member. They said the shooting appears to be accidental and self-inflicted.

“No one else was around him,” said Officer Jonathan Perok, a police spokesman. He said others heard the shot.

Police are continuing to investigate. They did not immediately release the boy’s name.
