48 years for man in Va. break-in, standoff

GRUNDY, Va. — A southwest Virginia man convicted of breaking into his estranged wife’s home and holding her at gunpoint has been sentenced to 48 years in prison.

WVVA-TV reports Buchanan County Circuit Judge Keary Williams sentenced 56-year-old Randall E. Ratliff of Lebanon on Tuesday.

Police say Ratliff broke into his estranged wife’s home in Richlands in March 2010. When she returned home, he held her at gunpoint for several hours. She was allowed to leave and was unhurt.

About two dozen officers from the Richlands Police Department and Virginia State Police responded to the scene.
