70-year-old woman beaten in Capitol Heights

A 70-year-old woman was severely beaten inside her Capitol Heights home early Friday morning, authorities said.

The incident occurred sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. in the 500 block of Drum Avenue, authorities said. Cpl. Larry Johnson, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said it appeared someone broke into the house and assaulted the woman who lived there, though it is unclear if anything was taken.

Johnson said the woman blacked out during the attack and was unsure exactly when it occurred.

She stored many items inside her home, and detectives are still trying to account for everything, Johnson said.

Johnson said the woman was critically injured, but is expected to survive.
