Afternoon shooting in Lanham area

A man was shot and killed inside a Lanham-area home in an incident investigators do not believe to be a random act of violence, authorities said.

The incident occurred just after 3 p.m. in the 10000 block of Franklin Avenue, authorities said. A law enforcement official familiar with the case said two men appear to have gone to the back of the house, encountering a man at the back door. The assailants shot the man, went into the house, then fled, the official said.

The official spoke on the condition of anonymity to candidly discuss the ongoing investigation without fear of internal discipline.

Police said officially that detectives were still searching for the suspects and probing a motive in the case. They did not immediately identify the victim.
