Police in Howard County are investigating a police-involved shooting of an armed man who refused to drop his weapon.
The incident occurred about 3 p.m. Monday when a man with a handgun reportedly fired shots in Hanover, in the area of Loudoun and Melrose avenues.
Investigators said that responding officers told the man to drop the gun. The man did not put down the weapon and continued to walk through town.
Police followed him as he walked along railroad tracks to the parking lot of an industrial park in the 7400 block of Hi Tech Drive.
Again, officers told the man to drop the gun, and when he refused, the officers shot him.
The man, who has not been identified by police, was taken by ambulance to the shock trauma unit of a hospital. The man’s condition has not been released.
Investigators are looking into how many officers were involved in the shooting.
